The Czartoryski Museum was founded in 1796 in the city of Pulawy by Princess Izabela Czartoryska.
Following the uprising of 1830 - 31, the property of the Czartoryski family was confiscated by the Russians. Most of the museum exhibits were spirited away to the famous Hotel Lambert in Paris where they remained until 1878 when the current museum was opened in Krakow.
The museum displays works by Rembrandt, Giordano and Brueghel. The best known work on display is Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci.
