The Kościuszko Mound, an artificial earth mound built overlooking the Vistula River, was completed in 1823 to commemorate the Polish military leader Tadeusz Kościuszko.
A small museum celebrating the life of Tadeusz Kościuszko can be found at the base of the mound.
Following considerable erosion, the mound was restored between 1999 and 2003. A circular path leads to the summit, nearly 1,000 ft above sea level.
Paul Strzelecki, the Polish explorer named the highest mountain in Australia after Kościuszko. He evidently thought the two looked alike.
