Technically, the Westerkerk Tower or Westertoren belongs to the municipality of Amsterdam rather than the church to which it is attached. This separation occurred in 1795 as a consequence of the French revolution.
A climb to the viewing platform half way up the 85 metre tower of the Westerkerk is rewarded with exceptional views over Old Amsterdam.
A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is needed as the stairs are narrow and steep.
Guided tours, with a maximum of six people, take place every half hour. Tickets can be booked, at the tower, for a same day ascent.
The minimum age for this activity is 6 years.
