The Zuiderkerk was built as a Protestant church in the 17th century. It was used for church services until 1929 and was closed in 1970 as it was on the point of collapse.
Following renovations in the 1970s, since 1988 it has enjoyed a new life as a municipal information centre.
Famously painted by Claude Monet in 1874, the painting now hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
